I first met Mitzi while working for her husband, Matt. Matt is very supportive of Mitzi's entrepreneurial undertaking and so he was quick to show me a catalog of her products. I loved them - and her! Meet Mitzi Lane.
1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Mitzi Lane. I graduated from Madill High School in 1999 and then Oklahoma State University in 2003. I have a degree in Agriculture Communications. I have been married to my husband Matt for 9 years and we have a two- year old daughter Addie Belle. I currently work at a bank as an Internal Auditor. I love spending time with my family, friends, going to church and watching my daughter play. I also am a Senior Consultant with Thirty One Gifts.
2. Can you describe your business?
Thirty One Gifts is a Christian based company that encourages, celebrates and rewards women. Thirty One Gifts is a direct sales company that includes purses, bags, organizational tools and other unique gifts. Most of the products can be embroidered and personalized.
3. Why did you start your own business?
I started my journey with Thirty One in July 2011. One of my dear friends from high school was a consultant and posted a picture of her bags on Facebook. I loved the stuff and called her to learn more. She told me that it only cost $99 to sign up and you get over $300 in products. Plus you earn a commission when you have a party. My daughter was 5 months old and I was looking for a "FUN JOB" and a way to have "GIRL TIME". I talked to my husband about it and he was very supportive. I signed up as soon as I could. Within one month I had two recruits and currently I have 17 people on 'MY TEAM" and I am working towards being a Director with Thirty One. I still work Full Time at my bank job, and do the home parties or catalog parties on the weekends or evenings. I have had slow months and wondered if I should continue. I have prayed about it and GOD has always provided for me. If I am feeling down and wondering if this is what I should do, GOD has always provided. The next day I will receive an email from a lady wanting to host a party. I will continue doing this until GOD tells me otherwise.
4. What do you like most and least about being your own boss?
Being my own boss means that I can work as hard as I want to. If I don't want to work weekends to spend time with my family I can. If I need extra income, I can schedule many parties and work extra hard. It is nice to not have a boss making you work 8-5, five days a week, or pushing you to get a project completed before you can go home.
5. What personality traits and skills are needed to run a business?
In my opinion, in order to run your own business you must be self-motivated. You must be energetic and not afraid to talk to people. Sometimes I have to step out of my comfort zone and do stuff that I may not always do. You will have customers that you will not be able to make happy. Just let that roll off your back and think about your other customers. You cannot let the negative people get you down. You must stay positive and have the mindset that you can accomplish it. "IF GOD IS FOR YOU, WHO CAN BE AGAINST YOU? Romans 8:31
6. What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?
My business has been slow at times. In the beginning my team was not very big and I was trying to grow it. There are times of the year that people just don't have the extra money to purchase gifts and that makes it hard. I have taught myself to overcome those obstacles with positivity and make the best of it.
7. Do you have any resources you have used to build your business that you would recommend?
Thirty One is a great company to be associated with. They have great training tools and offer help. Once you join Thirty One, you are paired with another lady. I have a great support system through Thirty One. When you are having a difficult month, I know that I can call my friends in Thirty One and they have been where I am. They are willing to help me with any situation that I have. That is my favorite part about this company.
I also recommend that before you start a new career PRAY about it. I tell all my new recruits that. When they call me asking questions, I tell them to take a couple of days to pray about it and see if this is what GOD wants them to do.
8. Do you have any tips to share on promoting your business?
If anyone is interested in earning an extra income the cost to join Thirty One is only $99 and you get over $300 in free products. Currently, Thirty One is doing an Opportunity to Join Incentive. If you join by April 1 and submit $1,000 in orders in your first 30 days you will get $250 in commission and your $99 kit fee back. THIS IS AWESOME!!! So basically, you could hold 2 or 3 parties with your friends, earn money and have the kit for FREE.
Also, if you are interested in hosting a party please contact me via email.
9. What other advice do you have for someone starting their own business?
If you plan to start your own business, just PRAY about it and make sure that you are doing it for the right reason. Don't lose your positive attitude. There will be days when you will have difficult times, but remember that the positive always outweighs the negatives. Always put God and your family first, and your business second.
10. How can we contact you about your products and services?
I can be contacted via website www.mythirtyone.com/mitzilane
or by email firstname.lastname@example.org
11. Is there anything else you would like to share?
If you would like to be added to my monthly email list, please email me and just tell me to add you. I send monthly emails that tell what the Special for the Month is (each month the special is different) and some months I add extra perks like FREE SHIPPING or FREE EMBROIDERY ($7 value)
Also, if you would like to know more about the business opportunities with Thirty One I would be more than happy to answer any questions.
