Meet Onno van den Bovenkamp

Meet Onno van den Bovenkamp!  When I first started in business, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be interacting with people all over the world.  But that is what happened!  It's very exciting and yet a bit scary too.  Scary because people I have never met are following me and taking my advice.  Exciting because I get to introduce some of the people I have met to others.  My latest "find" is a young man from the Netherlands!  He found my website, contacted me, we corresponded for a bit, and now we're friends.  He is a bit younger than most of the other success stories listed, but he is such an inspiration, I couldn't resist.

1. Onno, please tell us about yourself.

My name is Onno, I am 41 and I live in the Netherlands. I am married and I have two wonderful boys of 8 and 4 years old. I have been working in the airline industry as Purser (that's the chief flight attendant). As a working man or woman you'll never reach financial independence though and some years ago that got me started on my own coaching business.

2. Can you describe your business?

I have a practice at home where I coach people who would like to start their own business. I also give one on one training for job interviews. A few years ago I started a website where I translated my knowledge to pages full of useful information for those who like to start their own business.

3. Why did you start your own business?

I believe it is smart to have several streams of income. But above that I think it is great to explore and develop several sides of your personality. I can recommend this to everybody. In my case flying around the world and visiting nice cities while providing care to my passengers is great. And with coaching getting the best out of people is a fantastic feeling. The website or web business, as I like to call it, provides valuable information to all who'd like to know and an extra stream of income.

4. What do you like most and least about being your own boss?

As your own boss you can determine your own schedule. On the other hand you have to keep yourself busy and really focus on what you want next... and then don't stop until you have it!

5. What personality traits and skills are needed to run a business?

First, believe in your business and you do this by choosing a passion. On this page I have written an article on how you can turn your passion into profits. Second, especially in the web world, you need a lot of patience. It takes a long while for any site to rank high on Google. The good thing is that if you finally rank high with your site, the income is an automatic thing. They are like royalties for work you have done already.

6. What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?

Keeping faith in your business and even though results are not there yet to keep on working on it. Luckily coaching is my passion...

7. Do you have any resources you have used to build your business that you would recommend?

In the web world building links and by doing so building credibility is a tedious chore. I outsourced this to odesk.com they are a middleman between businesses who need staff and lots of skilled people who work for as little as $4 an hour to do the work for you.

8. Do you have any tips to share on promoting your business?

To write articles and publish them on eZinemagazines.com makes it easy for people to find your business. Google usually ranks you higher if you have a few good articles here and the link on this site to yours really helps.

9. What other advice do you have for someone starting their own business?

In the very first stage of starting your business I advise you to plan your business really well. What do you want and how would you like to spend your days? I learned a lot from a book called "the 4 hour work week" by Tim Ferris. To go short the best advice is to put life before work, keep on going after what really interests you and start a low maintenance business. I fully agree with this and on my site you can find all information you need. For Free!

10. How can we contact you about your products and services?

Visit my site and you can reach me via the contact form on the "contact me" page. I invite you to have a look, get inspired and do what needs to be done to gain your independence!

11. Is there anything else you would like to share?

No, that's all!
