How To Get That Search Engine Love
August 22, 2016
The goal of any website is traffic. And traffic is controlled by the search engines. So how do you get that search engine love?
Choose the right niche and domain name. It's becoming increasingly difficult to win the traffic war if you niche is too broad. If you are struggling to rank for a niche such as "weight loss", consider narrowing it. As the internet grows, niches that once may have been considered too small are now extremely profitable. Determine who your target market really is and hone in on that niche.
Create consistent, original, valuable content. Okay" content is no longer acceptable. You need to set yourself from all the mediocre content out there. Do the research. If your writing skills are lacking, take a course. Or hire a ghostwriter. If you use PLR, make sure personalize it enough to make it yours. And speaking of personalizing - let your personality shine through in all your content. What makes you different from everyone else in your niche? Let that show!
Your home page is where visitors will usually get their first impression of you. So make sure it's awesome. Show your visitors who you are and what you have to offer. This is where you set the tone for your site. Determine what will motivate your visitors to want to further explore your site and give it to them.
Make sure you say enough - but not too much. Cover your topic in depth, but forget the fluff. A good estimate is approximately 400 - 3000 words. Any less, and Google is apt to consider your content "thin". Not a good thing! Any more and you might lose your reader. If you can't write at least 400 words about a topic, perhaps it's not a good subject for an article, If you can't get your point across in less than 3000, consider splitting it into two parts.
Keep your website fresh. That means add new content regularly. Set a goal of one page of high-quality content per week. And while you're at it, review your old content to ensure it's up to date. Check for any material that needs updating. Make sure links are still active. Delete anything that is no longer relevant.
Use images. We are an increasingly visual society (think Instagram and Snapchat). Enhance your content with images. And just like your content, your images should be original as well. If that is not possible, use less common stock images. Edit them if possible to make them yours. And don't be afraid of videos, audio, webinars, and infographics.
It always seems impossible until it's done.
